Biomechanical Evaluation of Intercostal Muscles in Healthy Children and Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis: A Preliminary Study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Spine deformity during adolescent idiopathic scoliosis can induce a rib-cage deformity. This bone have direct consequences on the chest-wall muscles, including intercostal leading to respiratory impairments in individuals with severe cases. The aim of this study was determine whether shear-wave elastography be used measure intercostal-muscle speed (SWS) healthy children and those (AIS). Nineteen participants 16 AIS took part. SWS measurements were taken by three operators, twice each. Average 2.3 ± 0.4 m/s, inter-operator reproducibility 0.2 m/s. significantly higher apnea than normal breathing (p < 0.01) both groups. No significant difference observed between groups or breathing. Characterization muscles ultrasound is therefore feasible reliable for adolescents without scoliosis.

Biomechanical Study of Idiopathic Scoliosis
The spine is one of the most complex structures of the human skeleton. Spine develops several pathologies due to trauma or degenerative diseases, as scoliosis and sometimes is necessary to resort to a surgical correction. The finite element method (FEM) is a well-known and widely used numerical method to study spine structural behaviour. This paper presents a computer-aided methodology for crea...
متن کاملComparison of Respiratory Muscle Electromyography between Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis and Healthy Subjects
Purpose: Scoliosis is one of the most common spinal deformities that affect chest wall mechanics. Scoliosis results in ventilator disorders and respiratory muscle weakness. However, the mechanism of these disorders is still unknown. The main objective of this study was to identify the intensity of respiratory muscles activity in patients with idiopathic scoliosis compare with healthy indi...
متن کاملBiomechanical analysis and modeling of different vertebral growth patterns in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis and healthy subjects
BACKGROUND The etiology of AIS remains unclear, thus various hypotheses concerning its pathomechanism have been proposed. To date, biomechanical modeling has not been used to thoroughly study the influence of the abnormal growth profile (i.e., the growth rate of the vertebral body during the growth period) on the pathomechanism of curve progression in AIS. This study investigated the hypothesis...
متن کاملEvaluation of Patient Outcome and Satisfaction after Surgical Treatment of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis Using Scoliosis Research Society-30
Background: Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) may lead to physical and mental problems. It also can adversely affect patient satisfaction and the quality of life. In this study, we assessed the outcomes and satisfaction rate after surgical treatment of AIS using scoliosis research society-30 questionnaire (SRS-30). Methods: We enrolled 135 patients with AIS undergoing corrective surgery...
متن کاملUltrasound evaluation of the symmetry of abdominal muscles in mild adolescent idiopathic scoliosis
[Purpose] The objective of the study was to evaluate the symmetry of the thickness of the abdominal muscles at rest and while standing in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. [Subjects and Methods] An ultrasound assessment was performed of the side-to-side differences of the external oblique (EO), internal oblique (IO), and transversus abdominalis (TrA) muscles in the supine and stand...
